DEA Authorizes New Drop-Off Centers for Prescription Drugs

In an effort to combat the growing prescription drug abuse epidemic, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) recently announced that they would now allow hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, and other authorized centers to accept prescription drugs for drop-off.  In addition, long-term care facilities will be able to accept unused medication from residents, and individuals will also be able to mail in drugs to authorized collectors.

“These shocking statistics illustrate that prescription drug addiction and abuse represent nothing less than a public health crisis,” the Attorney General said in a video message posted on the Justice Department’s website.  “Every day, this crisis touches – and devastates – the lives of Americans from every state, in every region, and from every background and walk of life.”
